Maintaining sugar-beet health

Plant nutrients predominantly increase sugar-beet yield and quality through ensuring no mineral deficiency is restricting growth and development. However, a well balanced fertiliser programme will also increase crop health and help the plant protect itself from disease.

Crops suffering from stress as a result of nutrient deficiency will generally be more susceptible to various diseases or disorders

Boron

Boron in particular influences sugar beet health with deficiency in boron increasing the risk of various disorders. This also influences sugar beet yield dramatically and reduces the quality. Boron deficiency often leads to problems during storage due to “heart rot” and “dry rot” symptoms. The growing point becomes blackened and dies, whilst the beet get internal dark brown spots and dead tissue.
