Maintain Oilseed Growth This Spring

By: Natalie Wood

Oilseed had favourable establishment conditions and for the most part fields are looking good, with some advanced crops. When regrowth starts in the spring we need to keep that momentum going with adequate nutrition, both macro and micro.

Key nutrients for oilseed rape in the spring, as well as NPKS, are magnesium, calcium, boron, manganese and molybdenum. Due to the oilseed crop putting a lot of biomass on in a short space of time once it hits stem extension, it is key to ensure it has access to these nutrients. If deficient, they could become limiting factors to the crop’s yield, particularly magnesium due to its role within chlorophyll molecules.

All of these nutrients are in the crop-specific, foliar micronutrient product YaraVita Brassitrel Pro. Long-term independent trial data shows that an application of 3.0L/ha of Brassitrel Pro at the onset of stem extension gives a 0.29t/ha yield increase to oilseed rape, which currently gives a return on investment of around than 8:1. Having all the key micronutrients in one product also makes the application simple and efficient for the user.

Brassitrel Pro tank mixes well with many pesticide products, but always good to check on the YaraPlus app or website for compatibility.
