Yara have just completed a £5.5 million upgrade to their Avonmouth site. The new facilities provide greater flexibility in operation and delivery to farmers as well as increased productivity and energy efficiency.
The site is situated at the West Country Port of Avonmouth, near Bristol and handles the distribution of Yara's fertilisers into the Midlands, South West England, South East Wales, and a significant portion of southern England.
The refurbishment has delivered impressive upgrades to the storage, handling and bagging facilities and were delivered in a phased approach to minimise any interruption to fertiliser supply.
“Investing in British farming is and always has been a top priority for Yara,” said Kevin Soper, Yara Regional Terminal Manager. “This investment in our Avonmouth site reinforces Yara’s commitment to servicing our distributors and farmers in the Avonmouth vicinity.”
These modernisations coincided with Yara taking over the management of the site from a third party. The combination of improved facilities, larger capacity and direct management responsibility mean that Yara can provide a better, more flexible and cost-effective service to farmers.
“Now we have direct management over the site we have more control over our sustainability measures such as installing low energy lighting on-site and investing in the most fuel-efficient handling equipment to reduce emissions,” explained Kevin Soper. “Yara are committed to being sustainable from factory to field”.
Yara continues to work with local authorities, the HSE and the EA to ensure ongoing compliance with all safety and environmental standards.
With the completion of this project and ongoing improvements planned at Avonmouth, farmers can be sure that Yara is committed in their plans to grow the future.
