N Plan

N Plan is Yara’s computer programme to help calculate the optimum nitrogen rates for arable crops. The programme is now based around DEFRA’s fertiliser recommendation booklet RB209, however it also includes the results of Yara’s recent trials to take account of the economics of growing the crop and to produce a report including timings and splits. The programme is now available to all to download for FREE from the Yara website.

N Plan

How Does it Operate?

N Plan requires data such as:

  • Farm information

    - Location ( from this area specific rainfall figures can be calculated based on the previous years Met Office data)

    - Fertilizer type (Solid / Liquid)

    - Fertilizer price

  • Field information

    - Size

    - Soil type

    - Soil depth

    - Organic manure applications

    - Previous cropping

  • Crop Information

    - Crop grown

    - Market requirements

    - Crop value (for wheat)

From this an estimated soil nitrogen supply is calculated (unless actual recorded information is entered) to produce an economic optimum field-specific nitrogen rate.
