N Plan Trial (2006)

A tramline scale trial was carried out on-farm in 2006 on a heavy clay site in Northamptonshire to compare the N plan result with the RB209 recommendation and a ‘high N’ rate. Being in a low rainfall area and following a high N residue crop RB209 recommended only 100 kgN/ha, compared to N Plans recommendation of 142 kgN/ha and the ‘high N’ rate of 160 kgN/ha.

The results of the trial can be seen in the graph below, showing the extra nitrogen recommended by N Plan above the RB209 recommendation helped to produce an extra 14% yield. With wheat at £100/t and nitrogen at £0.50/kgN, N Plan helped to produce an extra £159/ha.
