Increase Your Grain Protein Levels with Chafer Nufol

Chafer Nufol is a source of foliar nitrogen that can be applied to wheat crops between growth stages 69 to 75 (end of flowering up to milky ripe) in order to increase the level of grain protein. Typically, protein levels can be increased by 1% through a well-timed application of Chafer Nufol.

Increasing Grain Protein Levels Thumb

Why do you need Chafer Nufol ?

Chafer Nufol should be applied as a foliar spray between growth stages 69 to 75 (end of flowering up to milky ripe). This is typically the last week of June, but depends on the season.

Apply when light intensity is low; such as early morning or preferably during the evening.

Avoid applying to wet leaves, stressed crops or on very hot, dry, sunny days. Overcast, cool conditions are optimal.

Increased Nitrogen Uptake

Without a well-timed foliar application of nitrogen, your crops may struggle to contain enough protein to satisfy the requirement for yield and quality.

An application of Chafer Nufol to the leaf and ear will increase the amount of nitrogen available to your crops during that crucial stage of protein development.

Reduce Risk of Inferior Crop Quality

Did you know that in 2015, the AHDB survey revealed that 57% of crops failed to deliver against the three quality parameters –protein, weight and Hagberg Falling Number. 59% failed on protein with the average being down at 11.9%.

To achieve the higher levels of protein needed in milling wheat, you can greatly reduce the risk of inferior quality with targeted applications of Chafer Nufol.

Avoid a Loss in Revenue

If crops fail to meet the necessary quality, it could significantly affect your revenue.

Yara Application Guidance

Timing

Apply Nufol as a foliar spray between growth stages 69 - 75 (end of flowering up to milky ripe). Typically, this will be the last week in June, but depends upon the season.

Apply when light intensity is low - early morning, or preferably during the evening.

Avoid applying to wet leaves, stressed crops or on very hot, dry, sunny days. Overcast, cool conditions are optimal.

Quantity

Apply 200 litres/ha of Nufol. This will supply the crop with 40kg N/ha.
OR
Apply 200 litres/ha of Nufol+S to supply

Nozzles

Conventional pesticide spray nozzles (not stream or dribble nozzles) to achieve a medium spray at fairly low pressure (2 bar or less).

High Yielding Situations

Where the nitrogen requirement is greater than 40 kg N/ha, consider two applications of Chafer Nufol, each applying 30 kg N/ha:

1st Application

Apply at GS 59 (ear emergence)
Apply 150 l/ha Chafer Nufol diluted with 100 l/ha water

2nd Application

Apply at GS 69-75 (post flowering)
Apply 150 l/ha Chafer Nufol undiluted
